Ref.: Berlingske 23. august 2023: “WHO fjerner antidepressiv medicin fra liste over essentielle lægemidler til børn”

Bare lidt motion virker bedre end antidepressiv medicin

Antidepressive medication is no longer on the list of essential medicines for children and adolescents.
Antidepressant medication has been removed from WHO’s updated list of essential medicines. This is due to lack of evidence for the effectiveness of this type of medication. WHO’s decision to remove antidepressant medication from the list signals, that these psychotropic drugs no longer have the esteem, that they received in the past.
Ref.: Berlingske 23. august 2023: “WHO fjerner antidepressiv medicin fra liste over essentielle lægemidler til børn”
Antidepressant medication may have serious side effects, and has caused children and adolescents to commit violence such as school shootings. Research has shown, that antidepressant medication of the SSRI type increases agression in childrens and adolescents 2,79 times.

Hopefully we will see a considerable drop in the use of antidepressant drugs to children and adolescents as a result of WHO’s decision.
Obesity medication from Novo Nordisk related to depression
”Wegovy” is the name of a new obesity medication from Novo Nordisk. It was approved in Denmark last year. The active ingredient is semaglutide, which functions as a satiety hormone and causes the users to eat less. Semaglutide has been used as diabetes medication for several years with the name ”Ozempic”. Wegovy contains a higher dose of semaglutide than Ozempic. Wegovy has numerous side effects. Some are very common and are experienced by more than 10% of the users. The very common side effects are stomach aches, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomitting, tiredness and headache.
Ref.: Apoteket.dk
Attention has now been drawn to mental side effects from Wegovy. In the USA Wegovy carries a warning about suicidal ideation as side effect, and numerous patients have reported depression and suicidal thoughts as side effects from semaglutide. Patients with a history of suicidal behaviour were excluded from medical trials with semaglutide, and that may have resulted in an underestimation of the risk of depression and suicidal thoughts as side effects.

A little physical exercise is more effective than antidepressant drugs
Researchers from University of South Australia have completed the so far largest meta-analysis of studies on the effect of physical exercise on mental illness. Their results showed, that physical exercise works better than antidepressant drugs. All kinds of exercise are beneficial, and as little as 15 – 20 minutes per week is sufficient. The results are based on 1039 studies with a total of 128,000 participants.

New book about treatment of depression
The Danish psychologist Gunnar Hatt has written a new book about treatment of depression: ”Love & Darkness – how to dissolve depression”. Gunnar Hatt has over 40 years of experience as practicing psychologist. We hereby bring a review of ”Love & Darkness”:
When you read this book you will learn that depression is depression, but that there is depression in the eyes of psychiatrists and depression in the eyes of psychologists – two radically different views and radically different forms of therapy.
Psychiatrists insist that depression is caused by a chemical malfunction in the brain and consequently must be cured by corrective chemical substances (antidepressants) or electrical shocks administered to the brain (ECT). Neither of these lines of treatment are healthy for the patient to say the least. In addition to a lot of physical disabilities and disorders, they basically impose general mental numbness.
In contrast, the psychologist author of this book documents by several case stories out of his own clinic that depression can be alleviated or resolved by guiding the patient to recall and understand earlier self-made conclusions or decisions in his life related to the nature of his depression. These conclusions and decisions served the person well when they were made in the past but in present time they can be highly destructive to the best interests of the person. In fact, they trigger the depression and keep it in place until the person is brought to see for himself the causative connection. Gunnar Hatt has hereby laid out a new and very constructive way of helping people. May it be well known…..
